I added additional spice to my lentils, and I wish I would have been more heavy-handed with those: cardamom pods, bay leaf, peppercorn. I used tomato sauce instead of puree, turned out great... I think next time I would double the tomato proportion, as my Egyptian friend tells me that the tomato sauce is the key to this dish. I didn't do the fried onions. Loved it!
I made this without the cheese, and I didn't measure the spices. Turned out amazing! I'm not normally an acorn squash enthusiast, but I could eat this everyday.
Excellent! I replaced the margarine with coconut oil, used soy milk, and replaced a 1/2 cup of oatmeal with unsweetened shredded coconut. I used a candy thermometer and boiled the mixture to fudge temperature. No problems setting up and very delicious!
Great flavor. I think I'll use less corn starch next time.
