Well.... I'm sure this recipe is perfect as is so I'm giving it 5 stars. The flavour was amazing. My downfall is I used frozen Saskatoon berries since I had tons in my freezer, and they didn't produce any juice so the end result was more like buttery granola with dry berries. It still tastes terrific in milk. I've researched since that one needs to adjust liquids in recipes if using less juicy Saskatoon berries. Will adjust next time.
This is perfect. I started backwards, with a fridge full of ingredients I needed to use up after a week of hosting extended family; 1.5 lbs of ground beef and some bags of vegs from veg trays. I did an ingredients search and found this brilliant idea. I had to alter the recipe to use up what I had, so chopped up broccoli was included, a red onion, 1/2 a rutabaga, and wagonwheel noodles instead of barley. This recipe is a keeper - obviously suited to whatever you have on hand to use. Based on other reviews, I added garlic powder and some beef bovril and increased the broth (2 boxes of unsalted beef broth).
I made this twice this weekend. First time I made it Saturday exactly like the recipe and it was very good although a tad sweet for our taste but still amazing. My hubby polished it off and asked me to make it again on Sunday to bring to friend's house for dinner. I reduced the sugar to 1/2 cup and cooked it for 20 mins, I think my oven cooks a little hot. This recipe is a keeper. My hubby said please make this again any time.
I made this as close to the recipe as I could with the ingredients I had access to and my diet requirements - I used rice instead of quinoa and green pepper instead of spinach, and I omitted the soy sauce and used low sodium tomato soup instead of ketchup or BBQ sauce on top since I need to eat lower sodium and sugar. I wasn't sure how it would turn out since the raw mixture was so wet and kind of a sloppy mud-like consistency, but it turned out perfect, moist, delicious and amazing! This has gone straight into my favourite recipes box.
This is a perfect recipe as is! The only thing I changed is I used regular cremini mushrooms since it's what I had. This recipe is going going straight into my favourites box, it's the one I'll use from now on.
I made this exactly as the recipe calls. The only thing I changed was the cookie my vessel - since I don't have a Dutch oven, I used a cast iron frying pan and covered the roast in foil to cook. The roast turned out perfect. The delicious flavour of the beef stands on its own and the onions, garlic, salt, pepper, and bay leaves finish it off perfectly. The meat was moist and delicious. My husband loved it and went back for seconds. I'm saving this recipe into my favourites box. Thank you for posting it Teresa!
This was absolutely THE best! First off, it was really easy and quick to make. All ingredients I already had at home. I made it exactly like the recipe except I used frozen blueberries instead of fresh (I have a bunch of frozen blueberries already in my freezer) and it came out terrific. I only read the reviews about the 8" springform Pam after mine was already in the oven, and I only have one springform pan anyway, it's a 9.5".
I halved the recipe and made buns. Turned out great and very tasty, but sweeter than we prefer for regular bread. Would make awesome cinnamon rolls or sticky buns or Swedish ring though - any kind of deserty sweet bread.
I was looking for a new way to prepare ground beef, and I found this recipe. I though, what the heck, seems kind of plain but I'll try it. It is absolutely delicious! I made it exactly as it, except I added a clove of minced garlic and some mushrooms, and a layer of potatoes in the middle as other reviewers suggested. The blend of spices was perfect, the potatoes were tender, it was all perfectly balanced meat/potatoes. My boyfriend ate half the casserole in one sitting and told me to add it to our favourite recipes list for regular repeats. :)
I made this stew for supper tonight in my pressure cooker. This is seriously fantastic stew!! I made it as written, except I added the can of mushroom soup as someone recommended, added some frozen peas and 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper, and thickened it at the end with a little flour. It was my first time eating bear and I was expecting it to be tough and maybe strong tasting. It was tender and completely delicious. This recipe is a keeper and I will make it often. My husband gives it 5 stars too. Thanks for the recipe!
