How to Make Christmas Tree Cupcakes
You'll find the full, step-by-step recipe below — but here's a brief overview of what you can expect when you make these festive Christmas tree cupcakes:
1. Spread a thin layer of frosting over each cupcake.
2. Chill in the fridge for about 30 minutes.
3. Add the food coloring to the remaining frosting and transfer to a piping bag.
4. Pipe the frosting on the cupcakes in a circular motion to create a tree shape.
5. Decorate the trees however you like!
How to Decorate Christmas Tree Cupcakes
This is where you can get creative. Decorate your trees with edible "ornaments" such as sprinkles, dragees, and/or small candies (such as M&Ms, Skittles, Red Hots, gum drops, or jelly beans).
How to Store Christmas Tree Cupcakes
If you can, try to frost your cupcakes as close to serving time as you can. Choose a tall, airtight container to store the frosted cupcakes. They will last at room temperature for up to three days.

Ingredients
-
2 ½ cups vanilla frosting, divided
-
12 unfrosted cupcakes
-
2 drops green food coloring, or as needed
-
¼ cup sprinkles, colored sugar, or candies
Directions
-
Spoon 1/2 cup vanilla frosting into a bowl. Spread a thin layer over the top of each cupcake with a knife. Refrigerate cupcakes for 30 minutes to make decorating easier.
-
Combine remaining 2 cups of vanilla frosting and green food coloring in a bowl; stir until frosting is uniformly green. Add more green food coloring, 1 drop at a time, if needed.
-
Transfer frosting to a piping bag. Working perpendicular to the top of each cupcake, pipe green frosting around the edge, working inwards in a circular motion to create a tree shape. Repeat with remaining cupcakes.
-
Decorate Christmas trees with sprinkles, colored sugar, or candies as the "ornaments" on the trees.
Tips
You can use any colored sugar pieces to decorate the Christmas trees. White, red, or silver dragees look really nice, or any larger round sugar candies, red jelly beans, or colored sugars work.
