Serve this mulled cranberry juice at your next gathering—this lovely treat will put your guests in a holiday mood. If you like, you may leave out the sugar and add some orange liqueur, like Cointreau, for the grown-up party crowd.

Ingredients

Original recipe (1X) yields 8 servings

  • 4 cups cranberry juice cocktail

  • 1/4 cup white sugar

  • 3 whole cloves

  • 1 cinnamon stick, plus more for serving

  • 1 or 2 small navel oranges, thinly sliced, plus more for serving

Directions

  1. Combine cranberry juice cocktail, granulated sugar, whole cloves, cinnamon stick, and orange slices in a 4-quart saucepan over medium heat.

  2. Bring to a boil; stir until sugar dissolves. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 10 to 20 minutes.

  3. Allow to cool slightly, and ladle into punch cups. Float one orange slice in each cup and garnish with a cinnamon stick. Serve warm.

    Cook’s Note

    If you wish, eliminate the sugar and stir in 1/2 cup of Cointreau or other orange flavored liqueur, after taking the mixture off of the heat, prior to serving.
